In yesterday’s episode of Game of Thorns, Eric washes tubes in buckets trying to find the leaks that flattened his two tires the night before.
Flat tires – the gift that keeps on giving. Happy Mother’s Day! After a few hours of pump and slump, we woke today to just one flat on Sheri’s Como. Progress! Today we’ll be stopping in St. George, Utah at Red Rock Cycles to replenish our tube supply and see if any of their mechanics want to weigh in on our deflating situation.
It’s 160 miles Northeast to Zion National Park where we cash in our two week lottery ticket. Eric hit the jackpot when he scored 2 straight weeks in BYOW Watchman Campground. That’s right. Bring Your Own Water. Zion provides 30 amp electric and a few flush toilets, but you’re on your own for showering and teeth brushing. Hence, the shower is a shower again! We spent Saturday filling the fresh water tank to capacity – 100 gallons, practicing our 90 second wet-suds-rinse routine and prepping meals that we can nuke. Adventure awaits!
Nellis Air Force Base has a steady stream of F-series planes flying overhead, like the 16’s pictured above. We rode pumped for our last list of provisions, including bandanas to wear to protect our hair from the in-season caterpillars falling out of the cottonwood trees. Feeling the creepy crawlies already!
We anticipate the Utah Parks to be more hike than bike so we picked up Falcon Guides to all the parks we’ll be visiting. We’re not sure about internet and cell coverage over the next two weeks but will try our best to stay in touch. Eric has the Garmin handheld eTrex GPS so we don’t get lost, now it’s just a matter of how fearless we will be on the climbs. Prepare for Battle!
